FAQ

There are many important questions to ask when selecting a contractor. We’ve summarized key issues below, but for your convenience, here is a pdf file to download and use for your evaluation.

What do I consider when I’m trying to evaluate a contractor?
You’ll want to check on licensing (www.cslb.ca.gov) and insurance. Ask for referrals and don’t hesitate to call customer references and check their track record with the Better Business Bureau (www.oakland.bbb.org). Expect a home evaluation and obtain a written estimate complete with costs, model numbers and warranty information. Compare bids on costs, energy efficiencies and warranties. Ask questions when the estimates you receive are considerably different—be sure you know what’s included. And look for the Energy Star qualified products for highest efficiency and money savings!

The Energy Star website contains a 10-point checklist you may also find useful: www.energystar.gov.
