4 Ways to Boost AC Efficiency Through the Hottest Months

We all know that summers in Walnut Creek, CA, can feel blistering hot. That’s why having a reliable home air conditioning system is a must to make it through the season. However, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice comfort for lower energy bills. Read on to learn some tips for boosting AC efficiency through the hottest months of the year.

Use Ceiling Fans

Ceilings fans are a must-have addition to any home cooling environment. Having a breeze blow across your skin can chill you down and make you feel like it’s much cooler than it actually is inside of your home. You should have ceiling fans installed in the most trafficked rooms of your home, including your kitchen, living room and bedrooms. During the summer, make sure your home’s ceiling fans rotate in a counterclockwise direction. Also, remember to turn them off when leaving the room.

Keep Direct Sunlight Out

Direct light from the sun can heat any room in your home very quickly. This will cause your air conditioning system to constantly run to combat the ever-increasing heat. Instead, strategically use blinds and curtains to keep the direct sunlight from shining inside of your home.

Program Your Thermostat

Experts recommend programing your thermostat to 78 degrees at times when you’re at home and 88 degrees when you’re not. By setting the temperature higher when you’re not at home, your air conditioning system won’t run as much. This will allow you to easily optimize the times when your air conditioning system is running.

Schedule AC Maintenance

It’s vital that your air conditioning system is capable of operating at its most optimal efficiency. To do this, you’ll need to have annual maintenance performed on your system components. It’s best to set this up for the spring months before you plan on using your air conditioning system full time. But it’s never to late to give your AC system some TLC.
